Eunice O Russell Scholarship

The scholarship was named in honor of the matriarch of our family. A woman who believed in the importance of the education of women.

In 2010 Angela Henry Todd and the late Maureen HoSang Blake approached the Principal of The Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha in our role as alumnae with the intention of offering assistance to needy young girls. Our first three students were Shayonna Sutton, LaTonya Roberts and Britney Dixon. The scholarship started then at the seventh grade (1st form) until graduation at 11th grade (5th form). Our first cohort we graduated 2 of our 3 students.

As time progressed A Friend InDeed became more formalized with the naming of the scholarship to separate that gift from other areas that we wanted to make contributions.

Our most recent scholarship student Shamoy Brown received distinctions in the seven subjects in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate that she attempted which included Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our contribution to her success makes us proud.

We are anticipating many more stories like this.

Since obtaining our 501(c)3 status, the scholarship will also be made available for students in the USA. The student should be a non-traditional woman of color with exceptional financial challenges accompanied by an excellent academic record.
